Breaking chains through the love of ChristChrist-centered addiction treatment for men and women in Southern California

Shepard & Stone is a recovery ministry built on the love of Christ: a real home with clear standards, where you are seen, not processed. You don’t have to be a Christian to come to Shepard & Stone.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28 · ESV

If you’ve been holding your breath for a long time, you can let it out here. Recovery at Shepard & Stone begins with rest, honesty and the steady love of Christ.

What Shepard & Stone stands on

Healing and transformation through Christ alone

A shepherd who seeks, a stone that holds. Four words hold the house together, in our founders’ own words.

Truth

“We are there to enforce truth.”

Clear standards, honest answers and a house culture that doesn’t bend.

Love

“I want them to feel loved. Love is key.”

Every resident is welcomed by name and treated with compassion, empathy and respect.

New life

“…create in them a new person.”

Recovery as a new beginning in Christ, built one day at a time.

Rest

“Rest comes through Christ alone.”

Room to breathe, to sleep, to pray, and to stop running.

What we treat

Help for addiction, and what often comes with it

Addiction rarely travels alone. Choose what you’re facing to see what it can look like, what to know first, and how we can help.

Addiction

Alcohol Addiction

Alcohol is legal and everywhere, which can make a drinking problem easy to explain away. If drinking has started to cost you your health, your relationships or your peace, you are not alone, and there is a way back.

What it can look like

  • Drinking more, or for longer, than you meant to
  • Trying to cut down and not being able to
  • Cravings or a strong urge to drink
  • Drinking getting in the way of work, school or family

Don’t stop drinking suddenly on your own. For someone who drinks heavily every day, stopping all at once can cause dangerous withdrawal, including seizures. Talk to a doctor or call us first, so detox can happen safely under medical supervision.

Addiction

Opioid & Fentanyl Addiction

Opioid addiction often begins with a prescription or a pill that seemed harmless. Fentanyl has made it more dangerous than ever. Wherever it started, you deserve real help and real hope.

What it can look like

  • Taking opioids in larger amounts or for longer than intended
  • Strong cravings and thinking about using much of the day
  • Using even when it is hurting relationships, work or health
  • Needing more to feel the same effect

Fentanyl changes the risk. Fentanyl is far stronger than other opioids and is often hidden in counterfeit pills and other drugs. Keep naloxone (Narcan) nearby, never use alone, and call 911 at any sign of overdose.

Addiction

Meth & Cocaine Addiction

Stimulants like methamphetamine and cocaine can feel like energy and confidence at first. Over time they take sleep, health, money and trust. Recovery is possible, and it starts with one honest conversation.

What it can look like

  • Using more often or in larger amounts
  • Long periods without sleep, followed by a crash
  • Paranoia, anxiety or agitation
  • Weight loss and neglected health

The crash can be the riskiest time. After stopping stimulants, many people feel exhausted, deeply low or hopeless. If you or someone you love has thoughts of suicide, call or text 988 right away. Stimulants can also contain fentanyl.

Help today: we’ll help you reach safe care through trusted partners.

Call or text (833) 817-7094

Addiction

Benzodiazepine Addiction

Benzodiazepines such as Xanax, Valium, Klonopin and Ativan are often prescribed for anxiety or sleep. Dependence can develop even when they’re taken as directed. Getting off them safely takes medical care and patience.

What it can look like

  • Needing a higher dose to get the same calm
  • Running out of a prescription early
  • Getting pills from more than one doctor or from friends
  • Drowsiness, memory problems or poor coordination

Never stop benzodiazepines suddenly. Stopping benzodiazepines abruptly can cause severe withdrawal, including seizures. Any taper should be planned and supervised by a medical professional. Mixing them with opioids or alcohol can stop your breathing.

Call or text (833) 817-7094

Addiction

Prescription Drug Addiction

Prescription painkillers, sedatives and stimulants help many people, and they can also lead to misuse and addiction. It often happens quietly, and it is never a reason for shame. It is a reason to reach out.

What it can look like

  • Taking a medicine more often or in higher doses than prescribed
  • Using someone else’s prescription
  • Seeing several doctors to get more
  • Taking pills to get high, rather than for the symptom

Get medical advice before you stop. Some prescription drugs, especially opioid painkillers and sedatives, can cause dangerous withdrawal or overdose risk when stopped or mixed. Talk to a medical provider before changing any medication.

Co-occurring mental health

Anxiety & Substance Use

Many people drink or use to quiet anxiety, and the relief doesn’t last. Over time, substances can make anxiety worse. Treating both together gives recovery its best chance.

What it can look like

  • Using alcohol or drugs to calm nerves or get to sleep
  • Racing thoughts, constant worry or panic attacks
  • Avoiding places or people because of fear
  • Anxiety that gets worse as a substance wears off

Panic and withdrawal can look alike. Withdrawal from alcohol or benzodiazepines can cause severe anxiety and can be dangerous. A medical assessment helps tell them apart and keeps you safe. In a crisis, call or text 988.

Help today: we’ll help you reach safe care through trusted partners.

Call or text (833) 817-7094

Co-occurring mental health

Depression & Substance Use

Depression can make drinking or using feel like the only relief, and substances can deepen the darkness. You don’t have to choose which one to deal with first. Both can be cared for together.

What it can look like

  • Ongoing sadness, emptiness or hopelessness
  • Losing interest in things you used to love
  • Using alcohol or drugs to numb or to get through the day
  • Sleeping much more or much less than usual

If you’re thinking about suicide, reach out now. Call or text 988 any time for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, or call 911 if you are in immediate danger. Your life matters, and help is available tonight.

Help today: we’ll help you reach safe care through trusted partners.

Call or text (833) 817-7094

Co-occurring mental health

Trauma & PTSD

For many people, drinking or using began as a way to survive something that should never have happened. Healing doesn’t mean pretending it didn’t. It means finding safety, and walking toward restoration at a pace you can bear.

What it can look like

  • Flashbacks, nightmares or unwanted memories
  • Avoiding people, places or conversations that bring it back
  • Feeling on edge, easily startled or always on guard
  • Using alcohol or drugs to numb or to sleep

You set the pace. Trauma-informed care never forces you to tell your story before you’re ready. If memories bring a crisis or thoughts of suicide, call or text 988 any time.

Help today: we’ll help you reach safe care through trusted partners.

Why Shepard & Stone

A ministry first, and a house that keeps its word

Our founders see themselves as stewards, not owners. “This is his ministry,” they say. That shapes every decision we make.

  • Christ in every day

Thanks and praise on waking, Bible study, worship, a chaplain and a biblical counselor.

  • Integrity over income

Founded in answer to an industry that, in our founders’ words, “lost track of what matters.”

  • One name, full continuum

Detox, residential, PHP and IOP are planned under one roof of care, with dual-diagnosis support.

  • A real home

A full-time chef for every meal, a gym, and exercise built into the week.

  • Fun at Recovery

Weekend outings that teach residents how to enjoy life sober.

  • Community after

Alumni stay part of the family, cared for with the same compassion.
